Couples driving themselves take the 8-day Alps, UNESCO towns and coast trip from EUR 1,100. For the north, the coast and the food in one go, Albania in 13 Days from EUR 1,660. Which Albania tour is right for you?

Pick by nights first, then by style. Set-date group tours are the cheapest way to see Albania with a guide, from EUR 900 for 8 days. Private self-drive trips give you a new insured car, booked hotels and local guides at each stop, from EUR 1,100. Private trips with a driver-guide remove the driving, from EUR 2,100. Activity grade runs from 1 (town walking) to 5 (long mountain days).

If you want a guided week of highlights, book a set-date tour. If you want your own pace and the freedom to stop, choose self-drive. If you want to be met at the airport and never touch a map, choose a private driver trip. Not sure which? Our guide to choosing a multi-day tour and our best experiences list cover the questions this page does not.

How did we rank these trips?

We did not rank by what earns us most. The order inside each section is the trip our guests book most often for that type of traveler, corrected by what they tell us afterwards. Every trip on this page is one we run ourselves from Tirana, with our own guides, so we can say plainly who it suits and who it does not.

Three things decide most bookings (the full method is on how InAlb designs your trip): nights available, whether you want to drive, and whether you want fixed dates with a group or your own private trip. Price comes fourth. Where a trip is not the right fit, we say so under “Not for you if”, and the closest alternative is named.

People ask me for the best tour. There is no best tour. There is the tour that fits your nights, your legs and how much you want to drive. Get those three right and Albania does the rest.Donald Leka, InAlb founder, Tirana

What is the best Albania tour for a first visit?

For a first visit, the Best of Albania 8-day set-date tour from EUR 900 is the one we recommend most. It covers the three UNESCO sites, Berat and Gjirokastra and Butrint, plus Kruja, Shkodra, the Roman amphitheatre in Durres, the Blue Eye and a swim at Ksamil, with a guide throughout and 4-star hotels. If you want the same loop at your own pace, take Albania in 11 Days by car.

From the road

The 8-day loop is the one I would send my own cousins on for a first look. Berat at 9 in the morning before the coaches, then the amphitheatre in Durres that most people drive past. If you have three more nights, the 11-day self-drive adds the Riviera villages and a wine afternoon in Rroshnik, and you eat where we eat.

Best of Albania: 8-Day Highlights Tour (UNESCO Towns, Coast and Ancient Sites)

Our most booked trip. A guided loop from Tirana through Kruja, Shkodra, Durres, Berat, Apollonia, Vlora, the Riviera, Ksamil, Butrint, the Blue Eye and Gjirokastra in one week. You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking guide, sleep in 4-star hotels and eat one famous farm lunch at Mrizi i Zanave. Departures run from January to November, so it also works off-season.

Albania in 11 Days Group Tour: Culture, Coast and Food

The private, self-drive version of a first visit. You collect a new insured car in Tirana, follow a route we have already booked, and a local guide meets you in each town: Kruja, Shkodra, Berat with wine tasting in Rroshnik, Apollonia, the Riviera from Llogara to Borsh, Saranda, Butrint, the Blue Eye and Gjirokastra. A private driver can be added for EUR 1,100 per booking.

Which Albania tour is best for couples?

For couples, the 8-day Alps, UNESCO towns and coast self-drive from EUR 1,100 per person is the trip we book most for two. It mixes Theth, the Koman Lake boat, Berat, a Vlora boat day and Gjirokastra with two food nights in Tirana. Couples who want no driving choose the 13-day Albania, Montenegro and Corfu trip with a private driver-guide from EUR 2,100.

For a romantic treat, the 11-day luxury tour from EUR 3,800. Honeymoon planning is a different page: see our Albania honeymoon itinerary.

From the road

Couples ask for "the romantic one" and then book the week with a car. Fair enough. The Theth night and the boat day at Karaburun are the two moments people write to us about afterwards, so we kept them in the 8-day route and moved the beach time to the trips that have room for it.

Couples Trip in Albania: 8 Days in the Alps, UNESCO Towns and Coast

A week for two with a car and no planning. Day one is a street-food walk and the Albanian Night dinner show in Tirana. Then Kruja, the Fishte farm feast, Shkodra, Theth in the Alps, the Koman Lake and Shala River boat, Berat, Apollonia, a Vlora boat day to Sazan and Karaburun, and Gjirokastra. Hotels, car, boats and guides are booked before you land.

Which Albania tour is best for families?

For families, the private Albania in 11 Days self-drive from EUR 1,750 per person works best, because you set the pace and triple and family rooms are available. Families who want three countries without hard days take Albania, Greece and North Macedonia in 12 Days from EUR 2,100. For three generations on one set-date trip, Coasts, Canyons and Culture (13 days, max 16) is built for it.

We are adding a dedicated 7-night family week with car seats and a pool base; until it is live, ask for a family-pace version of any trip below. Our private family tours and all-inclusive family vacation pages explain how that works.

What are the best active and hiking tours in Albania?

For hikers, the Out of This World 13-day set-date tour from EUR 1,800 is the strongest: five hiking days including the Theth to Valbona pass at 1,797 m, Holta and Osumi canyons and the glacial lake on Gramoz at 2,350 m, with one expert guide throughout and groups of 12 at most.

For adventure without long hikes, Active Adventure and Culture in 11 Days from EUR 1,850 mixes cycling, zipline, ATV, rafting and kayaking with UNESCO Berat and Gjirokastra. Day-level hikes are on our national parks guide.

From the road

The Theth to Valbona pass is seven to eight hours with a real climb. Our guides have crossed it more times than they can count and they still start at 7 in the morning. If that sounds like your kind of day, book the hiking tour. If it sounds like a threat, the 11-day active trip gives you the canyons and the zipline without the pass.

What is the best short break in Albania (4 to 5 nights)?

We do not yet sell a fixed 4 or 5 night product. Until we do, the short break we build most often is Tirana plus Berat, or Tirana plus one coast night at Vlora or Durres, with a private driver, hotels and one guided day.

Tell us your dates and whether you want culture or coast, and we quote it within 24 hours. The cost logic is on our private tour cost page, and private vs small group explains the trade-off.

With 7 nights, the Best of Albania 8-day set-date tour from EUR 900 covers the three UNESCO sites, the coast and the Blue Eye with a guide. Couples who prefer to drive take the 8-day Alps, UNESCO towns and coast trip from EUR 1,100, which swaps the far south for Theth and the Koman Lake boat.

Is a private or a set-date tour better?

Set-date tours cost less and include a guide all day; you accept the dates and a group of up to 12, 16 or 35 depending on the trip. Private trips start when you want, run at your pace and take triple or family rooms. Six of our fifteen trips are set-date; nine are private. Both use the same local guides.

What does "from price" include?

Per person, two sharing. Hotels with breakfast, the car or the vehicle with driver, the boats and ferries named in the itinerary, entrance tickets to the sites listed and local guides at the stops. Our cancellations and changes page has the rest of the small print. Not included: flights, most lunches and dinners, travel insurance, and the private driver upgrade on self-drive trips (EUR 800 to 2,000 per group).

Can I change the route?

Yes on every private trip, at no extra charge for swaps of similar cost. Common changes: adding a Riviera beach night, replacing Theth with a Koman Lake day outside the Alps season, or starting from Corfu or Dubrovnik instead of Tirana. Set-date tours run as published.

When should I book for summer?

Book coast and Alps trips for July and August by March (see booking and payment for deposits). The 8-day set-date tour and the solo tour sell out first. May, June, September and early October have the same weather with fewer people, and our guides prefer them. Month by month detail is on best time to visit Albania.

Do you run these tours for a family or a group of 10?

Yes. Every private trip runs for 2 to 30 people, with a larger vehicle and a second guide above 8. Groups of friends get the best rate on Albania Unfiltered, EUR 810 per person from 12 people. Families get triple and family rooms and a family-pace version of Albania in 11 Days.
