An Albania honeymoon gives you the Ionian coast without the crowds, two UNESCO towns where people still live inside the walls, and small hotels where the owner walks you to your room. We build a 7-night week with a private driver, upgraded boutique rooms, a private boat day, dinner on the walls of Berat castle and a table on the beach in Dhermi for around EUR 5,000 for two in 2027, flights excluded. September is the best month.

Couples who want the sea, two old towns and a few surprises without a resort. Honeymooners travelling in May, June, September or October. Couples who want the planning handled and the pace relaxed. Couples extending to Montenegro or Corfu.
Couples looking for a large all-inclusive resort with a kids' club next door. Travellers who want to see every region in one week. Anyone who wants to self-drive on their honeymoon, though we can arrange it.
Why Albania for a honeymoon
Because you get the things couples go to Santorini or Amalfi for, and you get them mostly to yourselves. A turquoise cove reached only by boat, with one other boat in it. A castle at dusk where the day visitors have gone and the families who live inside are putting chairs out. A pool above the Riviera with Corfu in the haze and the whole coast turning gold below you.
And because Albania is still honest. Prices are fair, people are warm in a way that is not rehearsed, and nobody has yet learned to be tired of tourists. In September, when most of our honeymooners travel, the sea is at its warmest and the beaches are half empty.
We are a Tirana-based tour operator and we build these trips one at a time. Tell us it is a honeymoon on the tailor-made tours page and the planning starts from there.

The honeymoon touches we build in
This is the part that makes it a honeymoon and not a tour. None of it is on a brochure, and most of it your partner will not know about until it happens.
Upgraded rooms at every stop. Wherever the hotel allows it, you get the corner room, the terrace, the sea view. We know which room that is in each house because we have stood in them.
A welcome that is not a fruit basket. A bottle of Albanian wine from a winery we like, two glasses, and a short handwritten note waiting in the first room.
Dinner on the walls of Berat castle. Arranged at a family restaurant inside the castle, at a table on the terrace, after the last tour buses have left. The white houses of Mangalem are lit below and the valley goes dark around you.
A private boat, not a shared one. A captain who knows the coves, lunch on deck, a swim off the back of the boat, and a beach you can only reach from the water. He waits while you swim. Nobody else is on board.
A table on the beach in Dhermi. One evening, a single table set on the sand at sunset, dinner brought down from the restaurant above. The other evening, a farm-to-table dinner in the hills behind the coast, where the family cooks what they grew.
A driver who knows when to talk. Your driver is with you all week. He knows the roads, the parking, the place for coffee at the Llogara Pass, and he knows when the two of you want the back seat to yourselves.
Surprises, arranged quietly. If one of you wants to arrange something for the other, a photographer for an hour in Berat’s old town, flowers in the room, a sunset boat in Dhermi, a ring that needs hiding, you tell us privately and we build it into the day so it looks like it just happened.
Time that is deliberately empty. Half of every day is planned. The other half is not. That is on purpose, and we come back to it below.
The week we build most often: 7 nights
Night 1 and 2: Tirana, then an evening in Berat castle
You land in Tirana and your driver is at the gate. The first evening is slow: a walk through Blloku, dinner at a place we book for you, an early night if the flight was long. Next morning it is two hours south to Berat, the town of a thousand windows. Your hotel is a restored Ottoman house in the old quarter, wooden ceilings and a courtyard. In the afternoon you climb to the castle with a local guide, and in the evening you climb it again, alone, for dinner on the walls. Imagine the two of you on that terrace, a bottle of Berat wine between you, the valley going dark, and the only sound the family in the next courtyard clearing their own table.

Night 3: Gjirokastra, the stone city
Through the Osum gorge and on to Gjirokastra, where the houses are roofed in slate and the bazaar climbs a hill. The castle, the bazaar, and, if you like cooking, an afternoon in an old house learning to make qifqi and byrek with a woman who has made them every day for forty years. Or nothing: a terrace, a coffee, the view. Your room is in a boutique hotel in the bazaar quarter, upgraded.
Night 4 and 5: Ksamil, and a day on a private boat
The Blue Eye spring on the way down, cold and impossibly clear. Then the coast. Two nights in a small hotel near Ksamil with the sea in front of your balcony. The full day is the boat: the islands off Ksamil, a cove with a jetty and nobody on it, lunch on deck, a swim in water you can see the bottom of ten meters down. The second morning, Butrint, the ancient city in the lagoon, before the heat, with a guide who grew up next to it.

Night 6 and 7: Dhermi and the pool above the Riviera
North along the coast road through Himara and past Porto Palermo to Dhermi. These are the two nights people talk about afterwards. A boutique hotel above the village with a pool that looks straight down the Riviera. Imagine the late afternoon there, the two of you at the edge of the pool, Corfu in the haze, a glass of something cold, and the coast below you going gold and then pink. One evening is the table on the beach. The other is the farm dinner in the hills. The last morning is the Llogara Pass, slowly, with a stop for the view, and then Tirana or the airport.

Where the hotels are, and why
We use small places, not chains: an Ottoman house in Berat, a bazaar hotel in Gjirokastra, a family-run sea-view hotel near Ksamil, a boutique hotel with a pool in Dhermi. We know the owners. That is how the corner room and the beach table happen. Our guide to luxury travel in Albania explains how we choose them.

Five other ways to honeymoon in Albania and the Balkans
Not every couple wants the same week. These are the versions we build most, each with a picture of one moment in it and a rough price for two with a private driver and upgraded hotels.
1. The beach escape: 5 nights on the Riviera
One base in Dhermi or Himara, a boat day, a day to the Blue Eye and Butrint, and otherwise nothing at all. For couples who have just survived a wedding and want to lie down. Imagine breakfast on a terrace with the sea in front of you and no itinerary for the day. From EUR 3,000.
2. The slow one: 10 nights, Albania top to bottom
Tirana, Kruja, Shkodra, a night in a stone guesthouse in Theth in the Alps, then south to Berat, Gjirokastra, Ksamil and Dhermi. Two or three nights in each place, no early starts. Imagine the boat across Komani Lake between the cliffs in the morning, then a fire and a glass of raki in a Theth guesthouse the same evening, with the mountains black against the stars. From EUR 7,000.
3. Albania and Montenegro: 10 to 14 nights
The Riviera and the UNESCO towns, then north through Shkodra to the Bay of Kotor, a few nights in a stone palazzo on the water in Perast or Kotor. Imagine a private boat out to Our Lady of the Rocks at sunset, then dinner on the waterfront with the bay going still. Some couples add two nights in Dubrovnik at the end. See our guide to private Balkan tours. From EUR 8,000.
4. The sea cave version, for couples who swim
Built around the water. A boat from Vlora along the Karaburun peninsula to the Haxhi Ali sea cave, the one locals call the Blue Cave, a second boat day from Himara into the caves and hidden beaches below the white cliffs, snorkelling off Ksamil. Imagine swimming into the Blue Cave with the light coming up through the water and nobody else in it. 7 nights from EUR 4,500.
5. Food and wine: Berat, Permet and the south
For couples who plan a trip around dinner. Berat’s wineries, a farm lunch in the hills, the thermal pools and slow food of Permet, a cooking class in Gjirokastra, then the coast. Imagine a long lunch under a vine in Permet with the Vjosa river below and nothing planned until the next morning. 7 nights from EUR 4,800.
What a honeymoon in Albania feels like
It feels unhurried. The country is small, the distances are short, and we keep the driving to a morning at most. It feels personal, because the hotels are small and the people who run them remember your names. It feels a little undiscovered, which it still is, and which is why you will spend some afternoons on a beach with six other people on it. And it feels like good value, not because it is cheap, but because the money goes into the room, the boat and the dinner rather than into a resort’s marketing.
Practical answers couples ask us
When is the best time for an Albania honeymoon?
September. The sea is at its warmest, the beaches are quiet, hotel prices are back to normal and the evenings are soft. June is a close second. July and August are hot and the coast is full, and coastal hotel prices can double. May and October are lovely for the towns and the mountains, with a cooler sea. Our post on the best time to visit Albania goes month by month.
How do we get there?
Fly into Tirana, which has direct flights from most of Europe. Your driver meets you at the airport. Corfu is also an option: a short ferry to Saranda puts you on the Riviera within an hour of landing, and we build trips that start there.
Is Albania safe for a honeymoon?
Yes. It is a safe, welcoming country with low crime against visitors. The one practical caution is the roads, which is why we recommend a driver rather than a rental car for a honeymoon. Our guide to driving in Albania vs a private driver explains both.
Will we manage with English?
Easily in hotels, restaurants and with your driver and guides. In villages, a smile and a few words of Albanian go a long way, and your driver translates the rest.
What about money?
Albania uses the lek, about 95 to the euro. Cards work in cities and hotels; cash is useful in villages and on the beach. Your trip is invoiced in euros and the dinners and experiences in it are paid in advance, so you carry very little.
How far ahead should we book?
For September, four to six months ahead secures the rooms we want. The small hotels we use have few rooms and the best ones go first. For June, three to four months is usually enough.
Can we extend, or add Greece or Montenegro?
Yes. Corfu is a ferry from Saranda, the Bay of Kotor is a day’s drive north, and we build both into honeymoons regularly.
What it costs
The 7-night week above, with a private driver throughout, upgraded rooms in boutique hotels, breakfast and dinner every day, lunch on the boat and wine days, a private boat, a wine tasting, all entrance fees and the dinners described, is around EUR 5,000 for two in 2027. Flights are not included. Lower if you travel in May, June or October and choose 4-star over 5-star on the coast. Higher if you want the best suite in every hotel or a yacht instead of a boat. We quote the exact number once we know your dates. Our guide to what a private tour of Albania costs explains how the numbers are built.

Frequently asked questions
Is Albania good for a honeymoon?
Yes, especially from May to October. You get the Ionian coast without the crowds, two UNESCO towns, boutique hotels at fair prices, and a private driver costs far less than in Italy or Greece.
What is the most romantic place in Albania?
For the coast, the Riviera between Himara and Dhermi. For an evening, Berat castle after the day visitors leave. Most honeymoons combine the two.
What is the best month for a honeymoon in Albania?
September. Warm sea, quiet beaches, normal hotel prices, soft evenings. June is the second choice.
How much does an Albania honeymoon cost?
Around EUR 5,000 for two for 7 nights in 2027 with a private driver, upgraded boutique hotels, breakfast and dinner daily, a private boat day and all entrance fees. A 5-night beach escape starts around EUR 3,000; a 10 to 14 night Albania and Montenegro trip from EUR 8,000.
Do you arrange surprises for a partner?
Yes. Tell us privately. A photographer in Berat, flowers in the room, a private sunset boat in Dhermi, a table on the beach. We build it into the plan without your partner seeing it.
Are the hotels all-inclusive resorts?
No, and that is on purpose. We use small boutique hotels with breakfast, and we arrange dinners at restaurants we know. Full board is possible if you prefer it.
Can we include Montenegro or Greece?
Yes. The Bay of Kotor is a natural extension north, and Corfu is a short ferry from Saranda.
Is a private driver necessary?
For a honeymoon we recommend it. Nobody argues about parking, nobody abstains at dinner, and the Llogara Pass is something you look at rather than concentrate on.
When we design honeymoons for guests, we find the trip works best when half of it is planned and half of it is empty. The castle dinner, the boat, the upgraded room, those we arrange. The afternoon you decide to stay by the pool instead of driving to the next castle, that is yours. We tell your driver before you arrive that the schedule is a suggestion. The honeymoons that come back with the best photos are never the ones that saw the most.
