Tour Overview

The Osum Canyon is 26 kilometres of limestone gorge near Berat, with walls dropping 450 metres on both sides. In spring and early summer the snowmelt fills the river and it becomes one of the best rafting runs in Albania. You paddle the green water past waterfalls and through sections so narrow you can almost touch both walls.

Is it good for beginners and families? Yes. The water is Class II to III, which means real rapids and splashes but nothing extreme. A trained guide steers each raft and tells you what to do, so you do not need any experience. It suits older kids, friends and anyone who wants a proper adventure day.

What is included? The guide, the raft and all the safety gear, and pickup from Berat. Bring a swimsuit, a towel and shoes that can get wet. The rafting season runs from about March to June, when the water is high. By late summer the river drops and the canyon switches to gentle tubing instead. It is one of the best adventure things to do near Berat.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Osum Canyon rafting cost?

Osum Canyon rafting costs €40 per person. The price includes a professional rafting guide, all safety equipment (helmet, life jacket and paddle) and transport from Çorovodë to the launch point. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the trip.

Is Osum Canyon rafting suitable for beginners and families?

Yes. The water is Class II to III, lively enough to be fun but manageable for first-timers. No rafting experience is needed, guides run a full safety briefing before you get on the water, and the minimum age is 3 years, so families are welcome.

When is the best time for rafting in the Osum Canyon?

Spring and early summer, roughly April to June, when snowmelt fills the river and the rapids are at their best. Later in summer the water level drops and the run becomes calmer and slower.

What should I bring?

Swimwear, water shoes or secured sandals, a towel, a change of clothes and sunscreen. Leave valuables in your car; anything you take on the raft can get wet.

Where does the trip start? Can I get picked up from Berat?

The meeting point is Çorovodë, the gateway town to the canyon, about a 1.5-hour drive from Berat. We meet around 10:30, and pickup from Berat can be arranged on request.

How long does the rafting trip last?

About 3 hours in total: meeting and safety briefing in Çorovodë, a 25-minute drive to the launch point, roughly 2 hours on the water, then the return to town.

How does Osum Canyon rafting compare to Bistrica River rafting near Saranda?

They are different trips. The Osum run is about the canyon itself: 26 kilometres of limestone gorge with walls up to 450 metres, Class II to III rapids at their best during the April to June snowmelt, starting from Çorovodë near Berat at €40 per person. The Bistrica is a shorter, spring-fed half-day run near Saranda, with clear, cold water and gentler rapids that fit easily into a beach holiday on the Riviera. InAlb runs both, so you can pick the one that matches your route: Osum for canyon scenery and livelier water, Bistrica for a quick adventure from the coast.
