Travel insurance and health

Written and run by our local team in Tirana · Travelife Partner

We recommend travel insurance that covers mountain activities and driving. Pharmacies are common, tap water is best avoided for drinking, and the emergency number is 112.

Common questions

Do I need travel insurance for Albania?

It is not an entry requirement for most visitors, but we strongly recommend it. Choose a policy that covers mountain activities like hiking and rafting, plus medical care and trip changes. If your route includes the Albanian Alps, check that mountain hiking is included.

What healthcare is available in Albania?

Pharmacies are common in every town and handle most small problems. Tirana has private clinics with English-speaking staff. For anything serious, your insurance should cover private care or transport home. The emergency number across Albania is 112.

Can I drink the tap water in Albania?

Best avoided for drinking. Bottled water is cheap and sold everywhere. In mountain guesthouses your hosts will tell you if the spring water is safe, and in places like Theth it often is.

Does InAlb help if something goes wrong during a trip?

Yes. You travel with a local team, not a distant call center. Your guide and our Tirana office at +355 69 386 4912 handle problems on the ground, from finding a clinic to changing the route.
