Osum Canyon Tubing from Berat: Summer Float Through the Deepest Canyon in the Balkans
The summer version of the Osum: when rafting season slows, the canyon becomes a 90-minute tube float past Champagne Waterfall and Devil's Gate, under 450-metre walls. From €37 per person, June to September.
Tour Overview
The Osum Canyon is 26 kilometres long, with limestone walls dropping 450 metres on both sides. It is the deepest canyon in this part of the Balkans. In spring it runs fast and people raft it. By summer the water drops and slows, and that is when you can float it on a tube at an easy pace.
Is it good for families and beginners? Yes. The summer float is calm and needs no skill or experience. You wear a life jacket, sit in your tube, and let the river carry you past the waterfalls and the narrowest, deepest parts of the canyon.
What should you know? It runs in the warm months, when the water is low and safe for floating. Bring a swimsuit, water shoes if you have them, and sunscreen. It is one of the best things to do near Berat in summer, and easy to add to a day in the town.

Frequently Asked Questions
Tubing or rafting — which?
Same canyon, different season and intensity. Tubing runs mid-June through September on the lower water — a relaxed Class I–II float, families and beginners welcome. Rafting runs April through mid-June on higher water — Class II–III, more thrill. Both pass the same canyon features.
How long are you on the water?
About 90 minutes of floating, at a relaxed pace — you can look up at the walls instead of paddling like a rafter.
Do I need to swim?
Basic water comfort is required — the life jacket holds you up, but you should be okay being in water. Non-strong-swimmers are welcome with a properly fitted life jacket and a guide in close range.
Is it cold?
The Osum is fed by mountain springs, so even in summer the water sits around 15–18°C. We provide wetsuits, so you will be warm.
Is it family-friendly?
Yes — minimum age 8, lower than rafting. Children 8–14 must be with an adult on the water. The relaxed pace works for families who would find rafting too intense.
What is the canyon like?
The Osum is the deepest river canyon in the Balkans — walls climb 450 metres on either side, the canyon is 26 km long, and the narrowest sections close to about ten metres. You float past Champagne Waterfall, Devil’s Gate, the Cathedral chamber and the Love Waterfall.
When is the best month?
July and August are peak — warmest water, longest daylight and the most consistent river levels. June and September work but expect cooler water.
How much does Osum Canyon tubing cost?
Osum Canyon tubing costs €37 per person, including your tube, life jacket, the guide and transport from Berat. It runs June to September, when the river is low, warm and gentle. Children from age 3 are welcome. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
