Trip Details

Ready for an easy escape from Tirana? Spend a full day discovering Durres, where ancient history meets the relaxed beauty of the Adriatic Sea. This lovely day trip blends Albania’s royal past, impressive Roman ruins and a vibrant seaside atmosphere. During the day you will explore the former Royal Villa of King Zog, admire the impressive Roman Amphitheater, enjoy panoramic views from the Venetian Tower and finish your visit relaxing along the lively Vollga Promenade by the sea.

Your journey begins with a comfortable drive from Tirana to the Adriatic coast, a trip of about one hour. As you leave the city behind, the scenery gradually opens up toward Albania’s coastal landscape, building anticipation for the historical treasures waiting in Durres, one of the oldest cities in the Balkans with more than 2,500 years of history.

The first stop takes you to the Royal Villa of King Zog, a remarkable residence built in the 1930s for Albania’s former monarch. Perched high above the city and overlooking the sea, the villa offers beautiful views of the coastline and a fascinating glimpse into Albania’s royal past. Although the building is no longer in use, its architecture and location make it a unique place to visit and photograph.

Continuing into the heart of the city, you will visit the historic Venetian Tower, once part of the defensive walls that protected Durres during the Venetian period. Today the tower offers spectacular panoramic views of the city, the port and the endless Adriatic coastline, making it one of the best viewpoints in Durres.

The journey through history continues with one of the most impressive monuments in Albania, the Durres Amphitheater. Built in the 2nd century during the Roman Empire, this enormous structure once held more than 15,000 spectators and hosted gladiator fights and public spectacles. Even though parts of it remain hidden beneath the modern city, the amphitheater remains one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the region.

After exploring Durres’s rich past, the day slows down with free time along the beautiful Vollga Promenade. Here you can relax by the sea, enjoy fresh seafood at a seaside restaurant, sip coffee with the Adriatic breeze, or simply take a peaceful walk along the coast. If you feel like it, you can even take a refreshing swim at the nearby beach and enjoy the lively coastal atmosphere that makes Durres such a beloved destination.

At the end of the day you will return comfortably to Tirana, bringing with you memorable views of Albania’s Adriatic coast and a deeper appreciation of the city’s long and fascinating history. For your convenience, your guide will contact you in advance via WhatsApp or email to confirm all details, and your ticket will include the exact meeting or pickup point to make joining the tour simple and easy.
