City of a Thousand Windows
Once in Berat, you’ll head up to the impressive Berat Castle, still inhabited today and full of history. Experience the charm of the city of a thousand windows as you wander the castle’s ancient walls, imagine life in bygone eras, and take in breathtaking panoramic views over the city and valley below. Walking inside the castle walls, your guide will explain how life has unfolded here over centuries. You’ll also visit well-preserved Byzantine churches, and if you wish, you can optionally step inside the Onufri Museum to see its colorful collection of religious art.
After the castle visit, continue on foot to explore Berat’s historic quarters and cross the iconic Gorica Bridge, which links the old neighborhoods of Mangalem and Gorica across the Osumi River. It’s one of those spots where everyone takes photos and nobody regrets it.
You’ll then have free time to explore Berat at your own pace. Wander the streets, enjoy a traditional lunch, browse small shops or simply sit with a coffee and watch daily life go by. There’s no rush Berat is best enjoyed slowly.
In the afternoon, regroup with your guide and begin the return journey to Tirana, arriving in the early evening with a deeper understanding of Albania’s history and a camera roll that’s definitely fuller than when you left.
