What is the Albania Out of This World Tour? This is a 13-day guided hiking and nature adventure through Albania’s most remote and dramatic landscapes. The route takes you from the Albanian Alps in the north — including the famous Theth to Valbona trek — all the way south through Holta Canyon, the Osumi Canyons, Gjirokaster, the Vjosa Wild River National Park, and the glacial lakes of Gramoz Mountain. It is one of the most complete and demanding nature tours available in Albania, designed for travellers who want full immersion in raw landscape, local culture, and genuine adventure.
How many people are on this tour? This is a small group tour with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 18 participants. The small group size is intentional — it allows for a more personal experience, better access to remote trails, and a genuine connection with fellow travellers and local hosts. If you are travelling solo, this is one of the best ways to meet like-minded adventurers from around the world.
Is this tour suitable for solo travellers? Absolutely — this tour is an excellent choice for solo travellers who love hiking and the outdoors. You will join a small group of people who share the same passion for nature and adventure. Albania is a very safe country for solo travel, and travelling with a group and a dedicated guide means you are never alone on the trail. Many of our guests on this tour come by themselves and leave with lasting friendships.
When does this tour run? This tour runs from mid-April until mid-October. Outside of these dates, mountain weather in Albania becomes unpredictable and several trails and mountain guesthouses are closed. The best months overall are May, June, and September — the trails are clear of snow, the landscapes are lush and green, temperatures are comfortable for long hikes, and the crowds are smaller than in July and August. July and August are also great but expect warmer temperatures on the lower sections of the route.
What is the price and what does it include? The tour price is €1,800 per person. This includes:
Not included: international flights, personal expenses, travel insurance, and any optional activities not listed in the itinerary.
How fit do I need to be for this tour? This tour requires a good level of physical fitness. It involves multiple long hiking days ranging from 5 to 8 hours, with significant elevation gain on several days. You do not need to be a professional athlete, but you should be comfortable walking for extended periods on varied mountain terrain, including steep ascents and descents on rocky paths. If you walk or hike regularly and are comfortable with full-day outdoor activity, you will manage this tour well. If you have not done much hiking before, we recommend building up your fitness with regular long walks in the months before the tour.
What are the actual hikes involved and how hard are they? This tour includes five main hiking days. Here is the accurate data for each:
Day 4 — Lëpushë · Maja e Vajushës viewpoint
Day 6 — Theth · Blue Eye spring & Grunas Waterfall
Day 7 — Theth to Valbona Pass (Albania’s most iconic hike)
Day 9 — Holta Canyon
Day 10 — Osumi Canyon
Day 11 — Gramoz Mountain glacial lake
Are there rest days? Yes. Days 1, 2, 3, 8, 11, and 12 are not hiking days in the traditional sense — they involve scenic drives, city exploration, boat rides, canyon swimming, thermal baths, and cultural visits. The tour is deliberately structured so that intense hiking days are followed by lighter days, allowing your body to recover before the next big hike.
What if I struggle on a hike? Your guide has completed every section of this route multiple times and knows every trail intimately. If someone in the group is struggling, the guide will adjust the pace accordingly. On most trails there are also options to shorten sections or rest at a viewpoint while others continue. Safety always comes first — we only use proven, well-established trails and we never push guests beyond their limits.
Who is the guide and what are their qualifications? You will have one dedicated guide for the entire 13-day journey — not different guides at each stop. Your guide is a specialist hiking guide with deep knowledge of every trail, region, and local community on this route. They have personally walked every section of this itinerary multiple times in all conditions, know the emergency protocols for each area, and are trained in mountain safety. They speak English and will share stories, history, and local knowledge throughout the trip, making the journey as enriching as it is physically rewarding.
How does InAlb ensure safety on the trails? Safety is our first priority. We only take guests on proven, well-documented trails that our guides know thoroughly. Every route on this tour has been tested and verified by our team before it is offered to guests. We carry first aid equipment on all hiking days, maintain 24/7 local support throughout the tour, and monitor weather conditions before every hike. We will always make the decision that keeps guests safe — including modifying or skipping a trail section if conditions are not suitable on the day.
Is Albania safe for travellers? Albania is a very safe country for tourists. It has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe and Albanians are famously hospitable towards visitors. The mountain regions covered in this tour are remote but well-established for hiking tourism, and our guide and local network provide a layer of security and support throughout the journey.
Where do we sleep on this tour? You will stay in 3-star hotels in the cities (Tirana, Shkodra, Berat, Vlora, Gjirokaster, Korça) and in carefully selected mountain guesthouses in the alpine areas (Lëpushë, Theth, Valbona). We choose the best available accommodation in each location — comfort and cleanliness are always a priority. Mountain guesthouses in the Albanian Alps are family-run, warm, and full of character. Rooms are typically private or shared twin, and conditions are comfortable though naturally more rustic than city hotels.
What do we eat on hiking days? On every hiking day you will receive a packed meal prepared for you to carry on the trail. These typically include a sandwich or fli (traditional Albanian flatbread) or byrek (flaky pastry with filling), a snack bar, fresh juice, and seasonal additions depending on the guesthouse preparing your pack. Every guesthouse along the route prepares their own version using local, fresh ingredients — the food changes as you move through different regions. It is hearty, fresh, and designed to keep you energised through a long day on the trail.
Are dietary requirements catered for? Please inform us of any dietary requirements or allergies at the time of booking. We will communicate these to all guesthouses and restaurants along the route. Vegetarian options are generally available throughout. Vegan, gluten-free, and other specific requirements can usually be accommodated with advance notice, though options may be more limited in remote mountain areas.
Is alcohol available on the tour? Yes. Albania has a rich tradition of raki (its national spirit) and local wine, and Day 8 includes a dedicated raki tasting in Tirana. Alcohol is available in the restaurants and guesthouses along the route. However, we do not recommend drinking alcohol the evening before a long or difficult hike — your guide will always advise on this.
How far in advance should I book? We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for the peak season months of June, July, August, and September. This tour has a minimum group size of 6, so departure depends on confirmed bookings. Booking 2–3 months in advance is ideal to secure your place and allow time for any preparation questions.
Are there fixed departure dates? Please contact us directly for available departure dates. We operate this tour on set group departure dates throughout the season (mid-April to mid-October). We can also discuss private group departures for groups of 6 or more who wish to travel on their own chosen dates.
What is the cancellation policy? Our cancellation policy is detailed on our Terms and Conditions page. We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance before booking — this covers you for cancellations due to illness, injury, flight disruption, or unforeseen circumstances. Travel insurance is not included in the tour price and is the responsibility of each guest to arrange independently.
What should I bring? Your guide will send you a full packing list after booking. In general, you will need: good quality hiking boots (broken in before the trip), layered clothing for varying mountain temperatures, a rain jacket, a daypack for hikes, sun protection, a reusable water bottle, and any personal medication. Trekking poles are recommended for the Theth to Valbona hike in particular.
What languages is the tour conducted in? The tour is conducted in English. If you require a tour in another language, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
Can I join this tour if I am not a hiker but my travel companion is? This tour is specifically designed for active hikers — the hiking days are long and central to the experience. If you or someone in your group prefers a less active trip, we recommend looking at our other multi-day tours which offer a better mix of cultural visits, coastal relaxation, and lighter activity. We are happy to advise which tour best matches your group’s needs — just get in touch.
